COCHRANE SNOW REMOVAL, WHERE ICE IS THE PROBLEM.

Cochrane sits west of Calgary toward the foothills. It gets the strongest chinook exposure in our service area, and that makes ice — not snow depth — the recurring problem.

THE COCHRANE CLOCK.

The applicable sidewalk clearing requirement is 48 hours.

We build our service around this requirement. Snow Op is not affiliated with any municipality and does not guarantee bylaw compliance — requirements change, and the rule that applies to your specific address should be confirmed with the municipality.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT COCHRANE.

Melt and refreeze, repeatedly

Chinooks push temperatures above freezing and back down again more often here than anywhere else we work. Water runs, then freezes. De-icing is not an upsell in Cochrane; it is usually the point.

Slope changes everything

A lot of Cochrane properties sit on grade. A sloped driveway that refreezes overnight is a genuinely different hazard from a flat one, and it needs treating rather than just clearing.

A 48-hour requirement

The applicable sidewalk clearing requirement under the current Community Standards Bylaw 06/2025 is 48 hours — longer than Calgary’s, and worth confirming for your specific address.

COCHRANE QUESTIONS.

Why do you push de-icing so hard in Cochrane?

Because of the chinook cycle. Clearing snow off a sloped driveway that then refreezes overnight leaves you with a sheet of ice instead of snow. Treating the surface is what stops that becoming the bigger problem.

Can de-icing guarantee the surface is safe?

No, and we will not claim it. De-icing reduces how much ice forms and how long it stays. Temperature, traffic and runoff all still affect what a surface does, so treat it as risk reduction rather than a guarantee.
